Hole in the Wall - A music lovers dream
Imagine yourself in an 18th-century walled garden - a very large garden - 2 acres to be precise! You are having a picnic, your hamper stuffed with all of your favourite food and drink, and you are sitting in the most fantastic surroundings landscaped by none other than Humphry Repton.
You may have just come for the day or you may take another glass of wine or real ale because your tent is a stones throw away in the next field. The sun is setting and perhaps to complete the magic some good music would be just the thing to take you into the evening.
You are most definitely in the right place!
This has been the long-term dream of Hopton Court owner Chris Woodward to have a music concert in his own back yard and to have other like-minded people to enjoy it with him. Eleven years ago he turned this dream into a reality. It has grown from showcasing local talent to 60's icons and now the dream has attracted the attention of some world-class acts.
You are most welcome to share this dream. Others have and come back year upon year - it's a very very special event and they know it. People come, bring a picnic, set up camp, revel and relax and then go again - that's it. The atmosphere is vibrant but not manic, you can dance or simply listen - there is no pressure, the award-winning ales and wines flow but there are no signs of excess, your children play safely away from roads - they're on a 1500-acre estate!
That is the philosophy of Hole in the Wall. Love life, love music and whether it's for the whole weekend or just an evening, you can leave your stress behind at the gate and enjoy the sheer magic of the Hole in the Wall garden. Consider this a personal invitation!
Chris Woodward is also a member of the Historic Houses Association.
